At the annual session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in Bangkok in April 2008, countries of the Asia-Pacific region took a decision to enhance collaboration to promote renewable energy technologies (RETs) for energy security and sustainable development. A resolution passed during this session proposed the establishment of an institutional cooperation mechanism to strengthen national capacities for renewable energy use in the form of a network of countries that could collect and disseminate RET information, share best practices, develop national capacities to plan and implement RET transfer projects, and promote research and development collaboration. >>Read more
